I have so many fond memories of attending Fall Fairs. My mother was raised on a Nova Scotia dairy farm so I have a long history of attending many County Exhibitions in Nova Scotia & the Royal Winter Fair and Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto but the grand daddy of them all is my Hometown WELLAND FAIR (aka The Niagara Regional Exhibition 🙂
Fall Fairs have been part of Ontario’s agricultural heritage since the 1800’s. At the end of the harvest season the farming community gets together via a completion forum organized by the local agricultural society where they can exhibit the success of their crops, herds, handcrafts, canning techniques – you name it!
Our local Welland Fair evolved to become the Niagara Regional Exhibition and has been hosted by our Niagara Regional Agricultural Society annually since 1853.
The competition forum is extensive with categories that span from Fruit, Vegetable, Grain & Forage, Horticulture, Food, Clothing, Arts & Crafts, and of course, livestock. The Fair includes a Cattle Show, Goat Show, Sheep Show, Poultry Show and the always-popular Horse Show.
This is the roots of the current Local Food movement – you can’t get a more thorough appreciation of “Field to Fork” than experiencing the depth of Niagara’s Agricultural yield here at our Hometown Fair. Large scale farms, artisan growers, garden enthusiasts & home chefs are all welcome to enter the multitude of exhibit categories ranging from best corn relish, or apple pie, or best Rose, or rabbit, or home made quilt.

For 161 years our Niagara Regional Agricultural Society has been bringing together the farming community and the general public with many fun events, Horse Shows and music, midway rides, foods, produce and homemade products and the tradition of deciding who has the best at the “Fall Fair”.
This year I am privileged to join in the celebration of our vibrant local agricultural industry via our MyPelham.com community website. I can’t wait to tell you all about all the exciting up-coming events happening this year at the Niagara Regional Exhibition!
